A descendant of the famous Patek Philippe World Time watches launched in the 1930s, the Reference 5230 was introduced in 2016 in two variations, in red and white gold.
In 2022, Patek Philippe presented a new interpretation of this model in a platinum case framing a blue dial, the Reference 5230P-001 World Time.
The round case has a diameter of 38.5 mm with a thickness of 10.23 mm and is characterized by a narrow polished bezel and distinctive winglet-style lugs. It is water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet.
Protected by a sapphire crystal, the dial center is adorned with a new circular hand-guilloched pattern that beautifully plays with light.
Around it, the two city and 24-hour rotating disks serve to keep simultaneous and permanent track of the time in all 24 time zones.
The local time is most prominently displayed with the hour and minute hands for the time zone whose assigned city name is just above the small red arrow at 12 o’clock while the times of the other 23 zones are readable on the 24-hour ring that rotates counter-clockwise within the city disk.
Thanks to an ingenious mechanism patented in 1999, the user can simultaneously correct all the World Time displays in one-hour increments by simply pressing the pusher at 10 o’clock.
During this process, the time-zone mechanism is uncoupled from the movement so that the accurate progression of the minute hand and the amplitude of the balance remain unaffected.
The self-winding mechanical movement, Calibre 240 HU, beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 48 hours delivered by the micro-rotor integrated into the level of the movement bridges.
The high-quality finishing can be admired through the sapphire-crystal case back.
