Audemars Piguet unveiled its first Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar featuring a case and bracelet fully crafted in blue ceramic.
Virtually unscratchable, ceramic withstands high temperatures and thermal shocks but its ultra-hardness represents a big challenge for the manufacturer as numerous operations are required to achieve a uniform look, thus impacting on costs.
Characterized by its signature octagonal-shaped bezel secured by eight visible hexagonal screws, the case measures 41 mm x 9.5 mm. Despite its screw-locked crown, water resistance is guaranteed only up to a pressure of 2 bars (approximately 20 meters / 66 feet).
The white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands, all filled with Super-LumiNova, stand out against the blue of the “Grande Tapisserie” dial, subdials and inner bezel.
In addition to time, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar indicates day, date, month, astronomical moon, week of the year (on the dial’s outer chapter ring) and leap year.
Visible through the transparent sapphire crystal of the titanium caseback, the in-house calibre 5134 beats at the unusual frequency of 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations per hour) and guarantees a minimal power reserve of 40 hours.
The integrated ceramic bracelet is secured to the wrist by a titanium folding clasp.
